Wonderful weekend! Trudy was a great instructor. There is certainly a reason why she has excelled in this field. The workshop definitely exceeded my expectations. I have learned things in the last 2 days that I will be able to practice and create from home.

Bravo Darren! You were a great and gentle teacher. Excellent atmosphere! A skill not easily perfected but certainly enjoyable to attempt. I can see why one gets "hooked". Very relaxing....

Food, location & instructor were great. I'd love to come back for future workshops. Thanks for the tea, homemade treats and creative atmosphere. The workshop exceeded my expectations.

I had such a great weekend, definitely worth the wait. Thank you for the great lunch, and for making everyone feel at home while they are here. Lovely way to send a day!. The facility is beautiful and very inspiring.

Thanks Kathy & Sue for opening your home and your studio to us. It was a complete pleasure. To be here while "Blooming Artists" was happening was an added joy. To have the public dropping by, along with all the artists, created an amazing sense of creativity. The workshop exceeded my expectations.

Retreat Yourself! 2 day workshops at the Villa.

Mosaics are one of the oldest forms of art, the Greeks and Romans brought them into their homes, palaces and public buildings. They were decorative, told stories and glorified great leaders, and their Gods. They were not the only cultures to use them, the Egyptians, the Moores, the Spaniard's and many other cultures designed wonderful mosaics leaving us a record of their times, the way they dressed, their buildings and many other aspects of their lives. So in making a mosaic we follow in a great tradition. We will work on a piece 14"x14' or so. You could create a small table top, or a piece to go on a wall or perhaps four 6"x6" tiles. I can discuss with you by email or phone your idea and the size of board you will need once you have decided to attend the workshop.

Day one: I will give you a brief overview of the art of mosaic making and outline the way we will be working. There will be books available for you to look at and each of you will have thought of something you might like to make. There will be time to discuss each of these ideas. You will then draw out your design to fit the board it will go on and choose the mosaic pieces you will need. The next step is to glue the mosaic pieces to your board with tile cement. This will take the rest of the day depending on the size and detailing of the piece. In the evening I plan to bring a film on Mosaic and we can relax and get to know each other.

Day two: There will be time to finish the gluing down of the tiles and then we will begin to grout them, which means that we will apply a grouting mix to go between the mosaic tiles which helps to hold them in place, and gives them that distinctive look that mosaics have. Once the grouting is done we will have a break for lunch and then come back for the final polish and the excitement of having made a mosaic of your own!
