Oct 3 – Nov. 21, Monday am, 8 wks, 11 to 12 We will get together to study from Donna’s 2 books. We will be guided somewhat with the participants and their areas of interest. Over the 8 weeks we will watch videos, learn how to self test, learn excercises on ways to help with pain, sleeping better, stress reduction, hormone balancing, activating more joy and more.

October 7 to November 25, Friday, 9:30-11:30 am, 8 weeks Cost including materials $165. All are welcome……beginning students, more advanced students and everyone in between. Using drawing techniques to imitate and interpret the world around us takes practice. This class will offer exercises to sharpen our ability to see like an artist. We will be working in pencil, coloured pencil, pastel, colour washes, inks and “sharpies”. Colour, value, line, shape, depth and form will be emphasized as well as the art of creating strong composition. We will all create still life, gestural, landscape and portrait drawings. You are invited to bring your favourite materials and sketchbooks, if you like, but materials will be provided.

October 7 to November 25, Friday, 1:00-3:30 pm, 8 weeks Cost including materials $185. You have heard of Canvas and Cocktail parties…….well now is your chance to learn how to paint your own paintings. In eight weeks you will go home with four completed 8×10 inch paintings. Three of the paintings we will do together at the same time. I will demonstrate how to paint them and in doing so you will be learning important lessons in composition, colour mixing theory and brush technique. The fourth painting you will choose your own landscape subject matter and, with my help, create your own masterpiece.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Education in Art Education from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. I studied painting and drawing in Florence, Italy for a year. I recently retired from teaching high school after 27 years. I was a visual art teacher and teacher-librarian. I had an exhibition of my most recent paintings at the Arts and Cultural Centre of Sussex in May and June this year. I am currently working on an illustrated manuscript of poetry.
Experience the Journey of Drum Making with Carlos Gomes. September 28 to October 26th, Wednesdays, 6:30 to 9:30, A 5 week experience.
Drum cost: depends on the style and size of the drum…from $150. to $300.
We will share the cost of Carlos’s travel expenses, aprox. $50. per person plus weekly donations for sacred teachings.
Come along on a journey to make your own “Moon Drum” with Elder Carlos Gomes. Carlos is originally from South America where he received the sacred teachings of the drum from his Grandmother. Having lived in New Brunswick since 1959 he has also learned from Elders among the Mi’kmaq, Wolastokijik, Ojibwe and other First Nations. Carlos shares his Grandmother’s sacred teachings, life experiences and songs and stories in his fun and engaging workshop. He has touched many lives and improved entire communities with his loving and empowering teachings. This experience is likely to be a catalyst in the understanding of your personal story as the making of a Moon Drum is a reflection of the story of your heart. These timeless teachings are powerful and will broaden your experience, gifting yourself with a life-long tool for spiritual growth. Everyone is creative! The class is open to beginners and people with art experience who want to explore
further. We will start the day with fun excercises to boost our energies and help calm down any fears that may block us. Working with acrylics we will explore brushwork, composition, emotions and color and color mixing. The most striking feature of acrylic paint is its versatility. Participants will explore a variety of ways acrylics can be used. Eden Energy Medicine shows you how to understand and work with your body’s reservoir of
electromagnetic and more subtle energies to support your immune stysem, enhance your health and balance your state of mind. Sue will guide students through some energy excercises that increase your vitality and joy and help to calm stress. Includes materials, tea/coffee and homemade cookies. Please bring a lunch.
Intro to drawing with Sue Hooper Sunday pm, 1:30 to 4:30, Oct. 23 $55
This workshop is designed for those who would love to learn to draw but feel fearful to start. Based on the teachings of Betty Edwards, Drawing on the right side of the brain we will start off with some fun right brain
exercises that teach us lots about learning to “really see”. Participants will explore line, value, form, expression and composition using graphite pencil and marker. Includes materials, tea/coffee and homemade cookies.

Art at Hooper Studios
encompasses working studios, art school as well as a Gallery and is located in the Kennebecasis Valley in Hampton, New Brunswick. From April to December, Hooper Studios offers classes and workshops in visual arts and crafts, for adults, teens and children. Children’s programs are designed to provide young people, ages 5 through 14, with an opportunity for creative exploration and experience in a non-competitive, friendly atmosphere. The school offers intensive studio-based workshops in a variety of fine art and craft media including clay, paint, metals, paper, printmaking, woodworking and more. Programs range from evening classes, one day workshops to one-week sessions and anyone may participate, from beginners to advanced professionals.
Hooper Studios is located in a stunning natural setting and provides a community of support for focused creative energy and work. We are surrounded by forty acres of beautiful woodlands, fields and gardens and just below us the amazingly beautiful Kennebecasis river winds through islands and marshland, a paradise of birds and wildlife.
Workshops and classes take place in a large, sunny studio with good working areas, a small library of art books, and homemade cookies and tea to enjoy. The emphasis of all the instruction is on the process rather then the finished product, and students learn to explore the important connections between art and nature.
